A Novel: ‘Of Patchwork Warriors’ A Re-Launch of the Re-Launch

Book Covers:

I did enjoy setting up, photographing and then fiddling about with the original cover:

Patchwork

And for a while it seemed to suit.

Then….

As a tidied up the said volume so it would fit in with Vol II (Our Skirmishers of Steel, Fire and Lace) it occurred to me that whereas this cover might suit a record album cover, somehow it didn’t really deliver much about the larger content of the book.

Hey-ho and off to various book cover design sites.

A great deal of fun was had and some experience was gained; finally Canva was the one which seemed to suit my needs, abilities and reflect at least the characters. Thus ahead of yet another re-lauch I give you a peak at the new cover.

Book Cover 2

(Ok I can see it but don’t you dare not show this to any readers WP)

      1. In that case it’s a good thing you have someone there to check your choices. I’m often surprised by how my husband describes a colour. “No, that’s not green. It’s brown. Not blue but purple.”

      2. Ah-ha, the last words were of Karlyn’s ‘poor horsies’, no exact details were described as other matters were more pressing.
Poseydale turns up in Vol II, the inference being she can travel through realms herself, find the three girls, and by some empathy neither Karlyn, Arketre or Trelli are simply delighted when she turns up, not truly surprised.
How and why she manages this is never explained.(not by me, anyway)
If anyone with true experiences of horses ever wants to write the adventures of Poseydale, just let me know (she has an ancestor of the same name in the three volumes of an earlier arc- referenced as ‘The Paladinic’).
I wonder if I am having too much fun writing?

      3. I’m glad to hear that Poseydale survives and reappears in Vol. 2. Since she’s a supporting character, how she does that can remain a small mystery to readers. Every substantial book needs a few of those. And there’s no such thing as too much fun while writing!

    1. Thanks Jill.
I liked the old cover too, a collaboration between me, household stuff and the garden. I maintain it would have made a good album cover for an indie band (takers anyone?….will work for chocolate and comic books).
But (sigh) too many WTFs for the reader.
This one says more about ‘The Girls’ in the time-honoured Fantasy Book format …annnnndd it was fun to do! πŸ˜ƒ

      1. ‘Now worries there sweetlin’ Ah got to know Roger, for a sweet ol’ guy who sometimes gets confused. Reminds me of mah ol’ grandpa- sittin’ there a huffin’ an’ a puffin’ about those ‘damn fools’…High holy! Did he have a list of ‘damn fools’, must have longer than your average arm.
Y’all take care now’ πŸ™‹πŸΌ Arketre

      2. Hey there, Arketre! So good to see you! Yep, Roger’s a good man with a big heart, but you know how they can all get sometimes πŸ˜‰ They need a woman’s hand to bring ’em back to thinkin’ right! Your grandpa sounds a lot like mine, ‘best I can remember … give him a few beers and he could let off some steam, either at the politicians or the umps in a baseball game! Take care and give my love to Karlyn and Trelli! ❀ ❀ ❀
